Inside Line Promotions – CALISTOGA, Calif. (April 14, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi registered his fourth top-five finish of the season last Saturday at Calistoga Speedway, where he competed in both sprint car classes at the half-mile oval.

Scelzi’s best result came in the Dan Monhoff owned sprint car with the Civil War Sprint Car Series. He qualified eighth quickest, won a heat race and finished second in the dash to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“In the 360 we seemed pretty strong,” he said. “Doing double duty we didn’t have a lot of time to give feedback because I was jumping from car to car. We were a little free in the main event. I ran third for most of the race and on a restart I slipped off the bottom a little and got passed by Rico (Abreu) and Andy Forsberg.”

His fifth-place result was his third top five with Monhoff this season.

Scelzi also piloted his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed sprint car on Saturday and Sunday at the scenic half-mile track during the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series doubleheader.

“We struggled with qualifying on Saturday,” he said. “We were a little snug. That put us behind the eight ball. In the heat race we were tight again.”

Scelzi qualified 24th quickest and he finished where he started – sixth – in a heat race to miss locking into the feature by only one position. He was set to line up sixth in the Last Chance Showdown, but was unable to start the race because of a mechanical problem.

The team returned to Calistoga Speedway on Sunday. Scelzi started the event by qualifying 19th quickest to narrowly miss a spot in the heat race inversion.

“We went out late and the track was slick so we were happy with the time,” he said. “In the heat race we had a big time battle for the final transfer with Kyle Hirst.”

Scelzi won the battle as he finished fifth in the heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started 18th.

“We thought the track was going to be a little bit slicker and we got the car a little tight,” he said. “We battled between 15th and 18th for most of the race. On a restart we got really tight and over the cushion so we decided to pull it in a few laps early.”

Scelzi was credited with a 20th-place result, which ties his season-best finish with the World of Outlaws.

He will compete this Friday at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif., with the series before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., where he will drive for Monhoff.
