Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (April 14, 2015) – Brandon Hanks registered his third podium finish in his last four races on Friday with the ASCS Red River Region.
Hanks maintained a top three throughout the feature at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., which gave him his third top-five finish of the season – surpassing last year’s total.
“Friday night was fun,” he said. “I’ve always had a lot of confidence going into Creek County. It’s a fun place to go. We were able to draw the front row and that got us off on a good note.”
Hanks won his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That gave him a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 4 to line up on the outside of the second row for the main event.
“We had a good car all night long,” he said. “Come feature-time we took third right off the bat. We had a red and made an adjustment on the car. I think my car was better than the top two. I could really close up on them whenever we got to lapped traffic. I could run anywhere I wanted to. I just ran out of laps to get the opportunity.”
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Superbowl Speedway, where the track was narrow throughout the ASCS Red River Region event.
Hanks rebounded to finish fifth in a heat race after surviving an early scare in front of him. He then posted a third-place finish in the B Main to transfer into the main event as the 17th starter.
“The car wasn’t as good as Friday,” he said. “We messed with it all night until the A Feature. We were definitely a lot better in the A. We went from 17th to 11th right off the bat. The car was really, really good on the bottom. About halfway through the race I had a bad vibration. It felt like a flat tire. I kept watching my oil pressure gauge and my temperature. It wasn’t getting worse, but it wasn’t getting better so I just kept running.”
Hanks ended with a 13th-place finish. The team found a mechanical issue upon returning home.
“It was a good weekend,” he said. “It’s always a positive to run in the top five let alone get a podium. One of these days soon we’re going to capitalize and pick up a win.”
Hanks is slated to compete with the ASCS Gulf South Region this Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas.
