HAGEN WINS “KOKOMO GRAND PRIX;” RAIN TAKES OPENER
The Honda USAC National Midget Series is off until May 29-30 races at Plymouth (Ind.) , but something will be drastically different from the last USAC Midget appearance there. The track surface is now dirt!
Darren Hagen, who leads the new 2015 standings, won the last race at Plymouth in 2012 when it was paved.
Hagen won Saturday night’s “Kokomo Grand Prix” at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway, leading the final 24 laps of the 30-lap race after passing Davey Ray on lap seven.
Hagen piloted the Kenny Brown Racing Lucas Oil/Great Clips Boss/Esslinger to Saturday night’s win after rains and wet grounds forced cancellation of Friday’s scheduled opening night of the Kokomo weekend. Tracy Hines, continuing to chase the elusive USAC “Triple Crown,” finished second ahead of Tanner Thorson, Steve Buckwalter and Ray.
Kevin Thomas Jr. garnered the ProSource fast qualifier bonus.
