Josh Schneiderman – Playing Spoiler!

Josh Schneiderman is looking to play the spoiler this Saturday night in the opener for the National Sprint League. It will be at his home track, the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. He has shown his mettle there before, having finished on the podium with the World of Outlaws at the 3/8-mile oval. One thing is sure…he will have plenty of hometown support in the grandstands!

Last Saturday, the Sprint Invaders opened at 34 Raceway. There were thirty cars in attendance. “You can tell the Sprint Invaders organization is strong, because we get a lot of tough competitors coming in,” says Josh. “There were a lot on Saturday. None of the four heats were slouches by any stretch.”

Starting fourth in his heat, Josh would go on to a runner-up finish. “We were able to roll into second on the start,” he says. “We had a good solid eight laps. The car was a little bit on the free side, but we were pretty good.”

He would draw the pole for the Shake-up Dash, but ultimately finish third. “We tightened the car a little bit, but not enough,” says Josh. “We let a couple of cars get by us. The preferred line was on the top at that point. (Jamie Ball) got the jump at the start, and I was teasing (Uncle John) Schulz about winning on the second lap. He squeezed me pretty good going into one. That’s just a fun family battle between him and me. It was fun to race with him again.”

Starting third in the main event, Josh stayed in contention before crossing sixth at the checkers. “We weren’t spectacular by any means,” he says. “We were right there. We were battling in second and third there for most of the race. We were o.k. I’m not going to blame it all on the car…the driver had a lot of rust to shake off too. We had a couple of things happen, and we hadn’t run the 360 for a while. We were just o.k.”

All in all, the first night out went well. “It was tough,” says Josh of the feature. “We had a big battle for position, and there were a lot of lapped cars in that mix too. For being the first night out, it was solid. We would have liked to run a little better, but we learned a few things and we’ll get better.”

Josh is excited about the opportunity to start his NSL season at home on Saturday. “I don’t know that anyone is giving us a whole lot of chance going in,” he says. “We’re going to do everything we can to play spoiler though. We’d like to get in the top five there and mix it up with those guys. I’m really excited about it, and I’m really pushing for a good run.”

The long range forecast is also good. “We should get some rain this week, which is going to make for great racing Saturday,” says Josh. “It’s going to be a good weekend.”
