Inside Line Promotions – GREAT BEND, Kan. (April 9, 2015) – Zach Blurton is aiming for a track championship at Dodge City Raceway Park this season.
Blurton will be an immediate contender within the DCRP sprint cars, which is a 305ci division that mirrors the United Rebel Sprint Series rules. This will be the first year for the class and its first of seven races is set for this Saturday at the 3/8-mile oval in Dodge City, Kan.
“I think we can win,” he said. “That’s my goal for this weekend. I think we have everything aligned this year to be a contender for the championship.”
Blurton has earned a top-seven result at Dodge City Raceway Park during his last six 305 races at the track dating back to 2012. He earned two podium finishes last year in addition to a seventh-place result.
“I led probably three quarters of the laps in both of the races I finished on the podium and just got passed with a few laps remaining both times,” he said. “We’re always fast when we go to Dodge.”
Blurton, whose lone victory at the track came in 2013, said he prefers the high groove there.
“I like getting up by the wall and that’s usually where it goes,” he said. “That separates the men from the boys and you can see who can drive at Dodge.”
Blurton participated at the practice last weekend at Dodge City Raceway Park and he has a pair of races under his belt this season, including one top-five result.
“We’ve raced a couple of times this season and a lot of drivers will be making their season debut this Saturday so I feel like we have an advantage there,” he said. “Hopefully we have a good, clean night and we will be in contention for the win at the end of the race.”
