Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 6, 2015) – Chase Johnson had a breakout performance last Saturday at Placerville Speedway.
Johnson scored his best career 410ci sprint car result after charging from 17th to sixth in the Shawn and Cindy Thomas owned race car during the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series main event.
“I think we have a real good baseline where we’re at right now,” he said. “All the growing pains really paid off on Saturday for our whole team.”
Despite battling a mechanical problem, Johnson qualified 22nd quickest around the bullring before he advanced from sixth to fourth place in a heat race to lock himself into the main event.
That lined him up on the inside of the ninth row for the main event.
“We were really patient,” he said. “The car was a rocketship. I don’t think we could have had it much better. Patience and keeping our nose clean throughout the race really helped us. We were picking off cars one by one, lap after lap. We slowly made our way toward the front. I could taste the top five, but the last restart hurt us.”
Johnson rallied from 17th into the top five before he dropped one position after the final restart to post a sixth-place result.
“It’s nothing to complain about or hang our heads about,” he said. “It’s a great finish, especially for us being as new as we are.”
Johnson will compete with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and King of the West this Saturday and Sunday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown.
He will also drive his family owned sprint car on Saturday with the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Newman Freeman Racing
During the 1976 auto racing season, actor Paul Newman became interested in forming a professional auto racing team and contacted Bill Freeman from Santa Barbara. Freeman is credited as the man who introduced Newman to professional auto racing management and their company specialized in Can-Am, Indy Cars and other high performance racing automobiles.
“The reason Paul Newman got into racing was because of a guy named Bill Freeman,” Johnson said. “Bill hasn’t really been involved in racing since Paul’s death so we really appreciate his support and partnership.”
Johnson would also like to thank Johnny Franklin’s Mufflers, PitStopUSA.com, Shifty Illusions, Napa Auto Parts, Flowmaster, Don’s Truck Repair, VSR, Fast Lube Plus, K&N Filters, Oroville Cycle, I-Wear Graphix, Driven Raceway, Nor-Cal Transmission, Justin Henry Racing and Chevron Pro-Gas for their continued support.
