Good Friday was Good for Barr Motorsports
On Friday April 3rd the Barr Motorsports team took The Dent Repair Shop, Capital V Connection Triple X Sprint Car to Boyd Raceway in Boyd, Texas to start the 2015 Season. It was the first race of the season so nerves were running a little high as the team didn’t want to repeat what happened at the first race of the 2014 season. Adam, Josh and Caitlyn got the track and got setup with Caitlyn selling some race wear to the fans in attendance and Adam and Josh preparing for the nights festivities. The boys were trying a completely different setup from what they have before and with no test time prior to the race they were hoping it was going to work out. Adam went out for hot laps and the changes were noticed right away as the car was easier entering the corners and really getting good forward bite off the corners. The heat race was next as Adam had to start shotgun on the field in the 7th position and knowing that the top 4 transferred to the A main he had to pass some cars. The green flag dropped and Adam jumped into the 6th position and as they entered turn 3 was fighting for 5th as a car spun in the front of the pack and everyone got by except for one car that spun to miss the wreck. As the 1 and done rule was in effect for the Sprint Series of Texas the car that spun out to cause the yellow was removed from the track and the car that spun to avoid after the yellow was out was put to the rear of the field. Adam was in the transfer spot in 4th when the green came out the top 4 pulled away and the top 3 created about a half track length on Adam running in 4th. When the checkered came out for the heat race Adam had transferred to the A-Main. Adam stated “the car felt good but the track dried out and the only moisture was up by the wall, I just got up there and ran and logged some laps, we will make some changes and see what we can do in the feature. Finishing 4th in the heat race is going to put us in the back of this A Main so we got our work cut out for us.” When they got back to the trailer Adam and Josh analyzed the in car video and made some changes to prepare for the ever drying out racetrack. As the cars rolled onto the racetrack in front of the packed grandstands the goal was to log laps and finish the race in one piece. When the green flag flew the racing was fast and furious. Adam was running the bottom and having many battles with the other drivers around him. As quick as the race started the race was over after 20 green flag laps with no cautions. Adam brought the car back to the trailer in one piece and finished 18th. When asking Adam how the evening went he stated “We tried some new things and they worked out well. The track got real dry and we were running around the bottom and I could have moved up to the top but felt good about the bottom we were just having a little issue getting off the corner. But when it’s all said and done that’s the most FUN I’ve had in a racecar in a while. The new engine had a lot of power of the old engine, when we get these setup things fixed we will be in the middle of the fight.” When asking Josh about the evening he stated “We tried a completely different setup tonight and I liked it, I noticed how the car was reacting differently. We haven’t had much time to test with this setup in dryslick conditions. I think we could have gone a little farther with some of the changes but to me this was one big test session. I’m just happy we don’t have to completely rebuild a car like we did after the first race last year.” The boys will be ready to go again May 2nd in Abilene Speedway in Abilene, Texas. Barr Motorsports would like to thank The Dent Repair Shop, Capital V Connection, Mark Barr, Allard Race Engines, and Simpson Race products for their support during the 2015 race season.
