Inside Line Promotions – WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 6, 2015) – Tony Bruce Jr. will have a short trek to reach the track this weekend for an ASCS Red River Region event.
Bruce Jr. and his One 8 Motorsports team are slated to compete on Friday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., which is the closest track to his shop.
“We’ve always been really good on quarter miles,” he said. “We’ve struggled the last couple of years so we’re really looking forward to going in and trying to make the car better to get back to the success we’ve had at a lot of short tracks.”
Bruce Jr. hasn’t been able to compete at the bullring very often throughout the years. However, he has recorded three podium finishes in his last five races at Creek County Speedway since 2010.
He placed third last year, second in 2013 and third in 2010. Bruce Jr. has also garnered a top-eight result during five of his last six races there, which provides a boost of confidence following a sour ending to his outing at Red River Speedway last Friday.
“It started off ok, but we drew in probably a little too good,” he said. “We started on the pole of the fourth heat. Even winning it didn’t put us in the redraw.”
Bruce Jr. was ninth in points after the heat races, leaving him one spot out of the feature redraw. He lined up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.
“The track conditions were pretty much rubber down on the bottom,” he said. “During the first few laps guys could make some moves because everyone was checking up. After about Lap 5 it was single file on the bottom. We were running ninth that whole time. About halfway through we had a mechanical issue. The car was hopping real bad so we ended up pulling off early.”
Bruce Jr. was credited with a 17th-place result.
