Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (March 31, 2015) It was a DNF and motor vibration that halted Matt Covington and the Covington Motorsports team’s charge at 81 Speedway Saturday night.
With no Lucas Oil ASCS National action scheduled, Matt and the team decided to go to the NCRA Pepsi “Air Capitol Shootout” race in Wichita on Saturday.
Covington’s high pill draw lined him up 7th for the heat race.
Matt kicked off the night’s action hustling his Triple X chassis towards the front in the heat going from 7th to 3rd.
The heat results set Covington up with the 11th place starting position for the feature.
Once the green flag waved and the feature got underway, Matt immediately started his charge to the front aboard the T&L Foundry/A-Rock Materials mount. Covington was able to work deep into the top ten in the 6th position before an unknown vibration appeared. As the vibration worsened Matt reluctantly exited the raceway and headed to the trailer.
“We had a good run going” stated Covington. “Anytime you can start outside the top ten and work yourself towards a top five run then you got to feel good about it. It wasn’t a National race and once I felt the vibration and was unsure I decided to play it safe and pull off. It ended up being a broken rocker arm, but I think we got lucky and didn’t hurt anything internally with the motor. We will put one of the other motors in this weekend and see if we can’t go grab a win or solid top five with the ASCS Red River Region.”
