Inside Line Promotions – KUNKLETOWN, Pa. (March 24, 2015) – Ryan Smith has been looking forward to this weekend for more than two and a half months.

After kicking off the year by competing at five races in Arizona during the first two weeks of January, Smith has been preparing for a breakout season that begins this weekend. He will compete on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., before making his debut at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, with the All Star Circuit of Champions on Saturday.

“Our goal this year is to push ourselves to new heights,” he said. “That means going to new tracks, like we did in Arizona in January and like we will on Saturday in Ohio. The biggest thing I need to improve on is running up against the fence.”

Smith likely won’t have that opportunity on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, where he found a fast bottom groove that led him to five top-five finishes and seven top 10s in a dozen races last year.

“We have a good baseline to start there,” he said. “We’re definitely going to race for the win, but it will also be a good chance to shake everything down in preparation for Saturday.”

Smith said he plans to tackle the first seven All Star Circuit of Champions races before making a decision on how long he will follow the 410ci sprint car series. That begins this Saturday at a high-banked track where he has never competed.

“The more and more I have watched videos it’s looking more banked and a sweet place to race,” he said. “We really don’t have many tracks out here (in Pennsylvania) like that. It’s something I just need to get there and do. Racing around here you can be competitive running against the fence and there’s nights when that’s the fast way around the track, but it’s more common to be a slicker, throttle-control track rather than slam it into the cushion.”

Smith said he is aiming for a victory on Saturday, but he would be happy with a consistent performance on the unique track.

“I definitely would like to run in the top 10, roll it in the trailer in one piece and have some fun,” he said.
