Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (March 24, 2015) – Shark Racing is ready to put last weekend at Stockton Dirt Track in the rearview mirror.
“We were better than last season, but not where we want to be,” Logan Schuchart said. “We learned setups, how to drive it and some things to do for next year when we return though.”
Schuchart’s weekend with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series was highlighted on Saturday when he qualified 18th quickest, finished seventh in a heat race and won the Last Chance Showdown to garner a transfer into the main event.
“I felt a lot better the first night,” he said. “I felt like I could race it more. You could get up on the top and move around the race track. There were a couple of times when I made some mistakes that kept us from the top 10.”
Schuchart advanced from 18th to a 14th-place result in the feature, which marked his best career finish at the track.
The team returned to Stockton Dirt Track on Sunday and once again Schuchart narrowly missed a spot in the heat race inversion via qualifying, which he finished 19th.
“If you get in the inversion and start on the front row of the heat and you can get the lead, even if you’re not perfect or your setup isn’t right you can still win the heat race and then make some changes for the dash and you’re in a better position,” he said. “When you start back in the heat, with everyone being as good as they are, it’s really hard to gain a lot of positions.”
Schuchart placed sixth in a heat race and fifth in the Last Chance Showdown to miss a lock-in position to the feature by only one spot both times. He elected to use a provisional to tag the back of the field for the main event.
“On Sunday night the track was pretty slick and we still haven’t found a setup for that,” he said after finishing 24th. “I tried racing at first and I just didn’t feel real comfortable where I could make many moves. Once I felt like the track started to rubber up I pulled off to keep myself out of a position to not crash the car.”
Fellow Shark Racing driver Jacob Allen also had comfort issues. Allen timed in 33rd and 36th, respectively, during qualifying. He ended eighth in a heat race and 17th in the Last Chance Showdown on Saturday, and he was unable to compete following qualifying on Sunday because of mechanical issues.
“I didn’t feel too good or get around the track very great,” he said. “It was a tough weekend for me. It’s one of those weekends I’d like to wipe away, but I look forward to racing every weekend. Even when you have bad times you have to rebound and have a good attitude going into the next race.”
Shark Racing is scheduled to compete with the World of Outlaws this Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the Mini Gold Cup and Sunday at Antioch Speedway in Antioch, Calif.
