Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (March 24, 2015) – Trey Starks continued his streak of making World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series main events last weekend during a doubleheader at Stockton Dirt Track.

“We haven’t missed an A Main this year, which is pretty tough to accomplish,” he said. “We’re priding ourselves on that and hoping to capitalize on it a little more. We’re starting to qualify better again. Qualifying inside the inversion is the key to your night. We missed it by a couple of spots on Saturday and then we had to do some battling in our heat and didn’t get through it.”

Starks, who qualified 20th quickest on Saturday, finished seventh in a heat race. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown, which he started on the inside of the second row.

“It wasn’t an easy one,” he said. “We dropped back to fifth behind (Terry) McCarl on the start. That was the toughest B Main I’ve been in in a long time. We hit traffic in about five laps and we got by McCarl with about three or four laps to go and then by (Cory) Eliason for third with about two to go.”

Starks placed third in the consolation race to transfer to the main event, which he started 20th.

“We were rolling really good and were up to 12th,” he said. “The cushion was pretty big on both ends. I made a driver mistake and got off the cushion in turns three and four and looped it around. I was trying too hard. That’s how we got most of our spots and it just bit us.”

Starks restarted at the tail of the field and he maneuvered back to 17th place before he was moved to last place at the conclusion of the race because officials deemed that he jumped the final restart.

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Stockton Dirt Track, where Starks qualified 16th quickest to earn a pole position of a heat race.

“Our heat was a pretty fun one,” he said “(Kerry) Madsen got the jump on the start so we followed him for a few laps. With about two laps to go we ended up catching him. I tried a slider on him, but he ended up crossing underneath us to get back by us.”

Starks placed second in the heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started 16th.

“We were working up through and racing really hard,” he said. “The track was really racy. There were cars everywhere. I think we were just outside the top 10 when we ended up getting a wheel put on us coming out of turn two and we got pushed off the track. We lost a lot of positions and the track ended up taking rubber at the end.”

Starks ended with a 21st-place result.

“We have to look at it that we were fast both nights,” he said. “We just ran into some bad luck and I made some driver mistakes.”

Starks will take this weekend off before resuming competition on April 4 at Yakima Dirt Track in Yakima, Wash., with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series.
