Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (March 17, 2015) – Derek Hagar is aiming for his first top five of the season when he tackles Devil’s Bowl Speedway this weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
Hagar scored a fifth-place result the last time he raced at the half-mile oval in Mesquite, Texas, which was last year with the premier 360ci sprint car series.
“It’s always important to get the firsts out of the way early each year,” he said. “We have our first top 10 so now we need to get our first top five and our first win. Once you get the first of everything it seems a lot easier for more to come.”
Hagar has limited experience at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, where he garnered his lone top five and career-best result last October.
“You carry a lot of speed around that track,” he said. “One set of corners is really tight while the other set is sweeping. It’s very common for you to be really good on one end of the track and really struggle on the other so our emphasis is to find the right setup that works at both ends.”
Hagar is coming off a sixth-place result during his most recent race – Feb. 27 at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla.
“We really improved from the first weekend of the season to the second,” he said. “We’ve had a few weeks off since then so hopefully we can continue to move forward.”
