Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (March 15, 2015) – Trey Starks opened the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series races at Thunderbowl Raceway last weekend on a bright note.

Unfortunately, he ran into bad luck during the main event each night at the third-mile oval.

“We’re back on top of our qualifying a little bit,” he said. “We were pretty consistent. We made the heat race inversion both nights out of 44 cars, which is a lot better than we’ve been qualifying. With the Outlaws it’s a pretty big part of the night and is the key to having a good rest of your night.”

Starks timed in 16th and 14th quickest, respectively, to garner a pole position of a heat race each night. He then finished second in each heat race to lock himself into the main event on Friday and Saturday.

“We got kinda squeezed a little on the start of the heat race on Friday, but on Saturday the start was as fair as you’re going to get,” he said. “It was just a matter of the top groove being a little better. We lost our brakes in the heat race on Saturday as well, but it was good to lock into the feature both nights.”

However, luck was lacking late in the nights during the doubleheader, starting on Friday when Starks lined up on the outside of the eighth row of the main event.

“We had some suspension issues,” he said. “We had a bad bar so the car was bouncing around. It didn’t want to drive right. It got worse throughout. We made some changes under an open red, but it didn’t help anything. We ended up finding the problem at the end of the night.”

Starks finished with a 19th-place result.

Saturday’s feature started with Starks lining up on the inside of the eighth row. He maneuvered toward a top 10 before he was caught up in a wild crash.

“We were rolling pretty good and got collected in an accident,” he said. “One guy tried to go for a hole that wasn’t there and it ended up with a road block in the middle of the track. We got tangled in it and got hit pretty hard from behind.”

Starks was unable to resume racing and he was credited with a 23rd-place finish.

“We had good starts to the nights and unlucky finishes,” he said. “We’re running good and qualifying good so I’ll take it as a positive weekend.”

Starks returns to action with the World of Outlaws next Saturday and Sunday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., for the FVP Western Spring Shootout.
