PETERSEN MEDIA: Not getting the trip out West off to the start that they were hoping for, Craig Dollansky and his Destiny Motorsports team are looking forward getting into the Golden State as they kick off a five week, 11-race span in California starting on Friday night.
“We really struggled in time trials this last week in Las Vegas, NV and Tucson, AZ, and that really put us in a hole early,” Dollansky said, “We haven’t been able to qualify better than 15th, and it’s hard to make up ground at this level.”
Wednesday night at the Las Vegas Dirt Track for the FVP Outlaw Showdown, Dollansky would finish seventh in heat race action on a rough and fast racing surface, and run in the Last Chance Showdown.
Fighting for the final transfer position aboard his MonDak Portables/Aggressive Hydraulics/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine, a broken wheel center would end the team’s night.
Back in action on Thursday, Dollansky would time the Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/Champion Brand Lubricants entry in 21st fastest before transferring into the feature event directly from his heat race.
Lining up in the 11th row of the feature event, Dollansky fought some mechanical issues during the early portion of the feature event, and eventually pulled his machine into the infield.
“We made changes all week in Vegas, but just could not find the speed we were looking for,” Dollansky said. “We had some misfortune on Wednesday night with a wheel, and on Thursday night we fought a brake issue, and then we had a fuel issues, so I pulled off.”
Heading to the USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ on Saturday night, Dollansky would line up in the ninth row for the 30-lap feature event on a very slick and abrasive surface. As the race got underway, the track quickly began taking rubber, and passing became nearly non-existent as the Elk River, MN driver finished in the 19th position.
“It’s tough, but no one is giving up, and are working together and communicating as a team trying to get things better,” he added. “Rick and Barb Rogers have been great to work with and we would like nothing more than to get their car into victory lane.”
With Las Vegas, NV and Tucson, AZ in the rear view mirror, California is on the horizon, and it is a trip that Dollansky is looking forward to.
“I have always enjoyed the California swing,” he noted. “I have been fortunate enough to win races at four of the eight tracks we visit, so I am hoping we can get things turned around during our trip.”
