Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (March 10, 2015) – While the process may include more freedom this year, the goal hasn’t changed for Channin Tankersley.
After putting together a consistent season that resulted in his first career ASCS Gulf South Region championship last season, Tankersley returns to action this weekend with the series season-opening doubleheader on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
“The overall goal is to get another championship under our belt,” he said. “Last year we were a little conservative toward the middle and end of the year. Now that we have that first championship under our belt we can go out and be a little more aggressive, try some things and hopefully find more speed.”
Tankersley is starting at a track where he has earned a top-10 finish during each of his last eight races.
“The way to get around Golden Triangle is to get up on the wheel and hustle it,” he said. “We haven’t won there since 2011 so it’d be great to kick off the season by earning a trip to Victory Lane.”
Tankersley has won at Battleground Speedway each of the past two years.
“We’ve done pretty decent there,” he said. “It’s a hammer-down, big, fast 3/8-mile track. They did some track work to it over the winter. It looks like it’ll be a pretty cool place if they get the surface figured out. They put some banking to it so it should be a little faster.”
While consistency carried Tankersley to the title last season, he is hoping wins do the same this year.
“The overall goal is to get another championship under our belt,” he said. “I’m definitely looking at bumping up the winning percentage, too.”
