Inside Line Promotions – CONROE, Texas (March 9, 2015) – Ray Allen Kulhanek is driven to recover his top spot in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings this year.
Kulhanek will kick off the 2015 season with the region this Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
“We race for wins and ultimately we race for championships,” he said. “Last year we didn’t get as many wins as we wanted and we certainly didn’t finish where we expected in the ASCS Gulf South standings.”
Kulhanek’s streak of four consecutive ASCS Gulf South Region championships was snapped in large part because of a tough season of missing luck. He advanced into the feature redraw during 14 of the 20 ASCS Gulf South Region events last year. However, he pulled the No. 7 or No. 8 – the two highest numbers available – eight times.
“Sometimes it plays in your favor and other times it doesn’t,” he said. “Hopefully we got all of the bad luck with the pill draws out of the way last year and it will balance out this year beginning with some good numbers this weekend.”
Kulhanek earned a pair of sixth-place results during his last two races at Golden Triangle Raceway Park and he has a string of three consecutive top fives at Battleground Speedway.
“We ran well at both tracks last year, but didn’t pick up a win at either track,” he said. “It’d be a big boost if we could earn a win or two during the opening weekend to start this season.”
He was last victorious at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in 2013 and at Battleground Speedway in 2012.
