Inside Line Promotions – OCALA, Fla. (March 3, 2015) – Brandon Hanks is on the mend after a trip to the emergency room last week.
Hanks battled an illness throughout last week before his family took him to the hospital last Wednesday, when he was diagnosed with tonsillitis and mononucleosis.
“My tonsils started swelling up and I couldn’t breathe,” he said. “I didn’t even know that I had mono. I didn’t have any fatigue. I just couldn’t swallow or breathe. My throat was hurting so bad it’d hurt to drink water. I’d have something in my hand to squeeze when I had to swallow.”
Hanks spent several hours at the hospital before he was discharged Thursday morning. He participated that evening during the practice night at Bubba Raceway Park before electing to sit out of last weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.
“I ran one full set of practice on Thursday and when I went out for a second one I ran about three or four laps,” he said. “The car was bouncing pretty bad so I pulled it to the infield. I went back out after they made a few adjustments and we did another full set, but I was spent after that.”
His team returned to Tennessee, where Hanks has been recuperating at home.
“The doctors told me three to four weeks is the average people are out,” he said. “I’m hoping I can beat that average. I need all the seat time I can get. I’m hoping we can make it to Devil’s Bowl.”
Hanks said his main focus is resting and recovering in an effort to return to racing March 20-21 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
