Inside Line Promotions – OCALA, Fla. (March 3, 2015) – Although Caleb Helms didn’t record the results he wanted the past two weeks in Florida, he is on the right path.

Helms, who switched to a Triple X chassis this year, took advantage of the laps during a handful of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour races in ‘The Sunshine State’ to prepare for the start of the All Star Circuit of Champions slate, which begins later this month.

“We figured more stuff out,” he said. “We’ve been dealing with learning these cars. We’re learning stuff right now and getting better each race. I’ve had no left rear drive, but last weekend’s race in Ocala showed us the direction we need to go with our cars.”

Helms kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Bubba Raceway Park last Friday by starting on the outside of the second row of a heat race.

“We had a good start the first time and Sam Hafertepe Jr. came up in front of me from the pole position,” he said. “They ended up calling the start back. On the next start he got up in front of me again and I checked up. Then somebody passed me on the straightaway.”

Helms was relegated to a B Main after ending the heat race with a fifth-place result. He started the consolation race on the inside of the third row.

“We started good for a lap,” he said. “I thought I had something. I was racing with Danny Smith and I got around him, but he found a better line of rubber. It took me a while to get in the rubber.”

Helms finished ninth in the B Main before Saturday’s race was rained out.

“It was kind of a bummer we didn’t get to run the next night because I think we learned some things that we could have applied,” he said. “Now we’re looking forward to kicking off the All Star season. We have a better handle on these cars and got to shake the rust off by racing in Florida.”

Helms will resume action on March 28 at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, where he will compete at the All Star Circuit of Champions season opener.
