Inside Line Promotions – OCALA, Fla. (March 2, 2015) – Travis Rilat wrapped up his trip to Florida last Friday at Bubba Raceway Park.
“It wasn’t a very good night,” he said. “We weren’t able to get the car going very well and the track didn’t have a top and a bottom lane so it made it tough to have a good race.”
Rilat kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour debut at the egg-shaped track by starting a heat race on the outside of the front row – a lane that wasn’t preferred.
“The inside was the better lane when we went out there,” he said. “We just couldn’t find much grip and ended up losing a position.”
Rilat’s third-place finish in his heat race relegated him to a B Main, which he started on the outside of the front row. After fading back a bit at the start, Rilat rebounded in the closing laps to take the lead on the bottom of the track where rubber began to cover the racing line.
“It rubbered in the B Main and I was able to find the rubber,” he said. “Then it was follow the leader in the feature. I just ran where I started.”
Rilat, who won the consolation race to transfer into the back of the main event, then finished where he started – 18th – in the feature. Saturday’s race was rained out.
Although he didn’t get the results he hoped for in Florida, Rilat said it will help him when he returns to action on March 13 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and March 14 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, for the ASCS Gulf South Region season-opening weekend.
“I remember years back when I’d go to Florida and run 10 or 12 shows and then come to this area and run with the regional or national deal,” he said. “We’d have a little time already and figured out what we needed to before everyone else. It’s a lot easier to get going that way.”
