Inside Line Promotions – BARBERVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2015) – Big Game Motorsports driver Danny Lasoski had one goal last weekend at the DIRTcar Nationals.
“We went there to win,” he said. “We had a solid week, but our goal was to win races. While we weren’t able to get a victory, it was a great start to the season and something to build on.”
Lasoski, who is the winningest driver at Volusia Speedway Park, powered the Muddy No. 2 sprint car to a pair of runner-up finishes and a trio of top 10s during five races at the fastest half-mile dirt track.
The Big Game Motorsports team opened the event last Wednesday with Lasoski setting quick time during qualifying. He finished fourth in his heat race to lock himself into the All Star Circuit of Champions dash, which he placed second in. He then ended second in the main event.
“We were really good,” he said. “We took off at the start of the race and spun the wheels. I was third before we even got to the flag stand. We passed (Paul) McMahan and didn’t get a chance to challenge (Greg) Hodnett for the lead.”
Lasoski returned to Volusia Speedway Park on Thursday with the All Star Circuit of Champions and he was once again in contention for the win at the end of the night. After qualifying third quickest, finishing third in a heat race and ending second in the dash, Lasoski spent most of the main event within striking distance of the leader.
However, another competitor collided with the Muddy sponsored sprint car entering turn one and the front end was knocked out of Lasoski’s car. That ended his night with an 18th-place result.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season opener took over Volusia Speedway Park on Friday, when Lasoski qualified 17th quickest to miss the heat race inversion by only one position. He placed third in a heat race and 14th in the main event.
“We had a head gasket out during the main event and instead of taking a chance on killing it we rode around and finished the race,” he said.
Big Game Motorsports rebounded on Saturday as Lasoski timed in 14th quickest during qualifying before he claimed a heat race to lock himself into the dash. Lasoski advanced from seventh to fifth place in the dash and he then maneuvered to a second-place result in the 30-lap main event.
“We had a late-race caution,” he said. “I wasn’t aware the race track had cleaned off in turns one and two and had rubber on the top. Donny Schatz peeled off and went to the top. I couldn’t believe he left the whole bottom. I hit it really good and came out of turn two side by side with him. On the second lap he gained three or four car lengths on me exiting turn two. You can’t give a six-time champion that much room and make it back up.”
The DIRTcar Nationals concluded on Sunday with Lasoski qualifying sixth quickest and finishing fourth in a heat race. The Muddy sprint car battled inside the top 10 throughout the main event before earning an eighth-place result.
“The race track was so good on the bottom you could run wide open,” Lasoski said. “We weren’t content to follow everyone so we moved up the track. It seemed like every time we passed somebody we’d get passed back.”
Big Game Motorsports will return to action on March 4-5 for the FVP Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas.
