Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (Feb. 15, 2015) – Caleb Helms is excited to get away from the snow and cold wind gusts.
Helms will venture to Florida to kick off the 2015 season next Thursday through Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa for the Ronald Laney Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“It’s a lot better than waiting in the snow here for a couple more weeks,” he said. “I’m ready to get back at it. I’m glad to be able to go down there. I think East Bay is an awesome track. I’ve got my wife and my 2-month-old son coming down so we get to hang out and do some racing.”
Helms hasn’t raced at the third-mile oval in a couple of seasons, but he said he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“They say when the tide comes in it gets more moisture in the track,” he said. “I don’t know how true that is, but it does seem to change. You do have to watch the track.”
Helms will then compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., Feb. 27-28.
“You’re on the hammer around that place,” he said. “You’re turning from turn one to turn four and then you straighten up a little bit. Those tracks in Florida are pretty unique.”
Helms will have his grandfather, Larry Helms, as a major part of team along with Craig Stevens as the crew chief this season.
“My grandpa and Craig have already been a huge help getting ready for the season,” Caleb Helms said. “We’re all very excited to start racing, especially down in sunny Florida.”
