Inside Line Promotions – MOUNT GAMBIER, Glenburnie, South Australia (Feb. 15, 2015) – Travis Rilat made the long trip to Australia worth it a week ago Saturday when he captured his second straight Tyson Perez Memorial at Borderline Speedway.

Rilat, who was driving for George Smetona with Phil Seymour serving as the crew chief, dominated the 4th edition of the memorial race that honored his longtime friend and crew chief.

“It’s good that we can first off win and second to do it back to back,” he said. “It’s pretty special knowing we’re racing with our heart for our lost buddy.”

Rilat opened the event by setting quick time in qualifying. He then finished second and sixth, respectively, in heat races to give him the third-most points out of the competitors. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the 31-lap feature.

After quickly advancing into the runner-up position, Rilat used momentum he gained from running the top groove in turns one and two to rocket into the lead entering the bottom in turn three approximately a quarter of the way through the race.

He maintained the top spot for the remainder of the event to kick off 2015 with the victory.

“There isn’t a better way to start the year than by winning, but to win a race that honored my friend is extra special,” he said.

Rilat will open his racing season in the United States next Thursday through Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla., for the Ronald Laney Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“We’re racing in Ronald’s memory,” he said. “His father owns our truck and trailer. We’ve stayed close friends and I’d like to win the race for him.”

Rilat recorded a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win at East Bay Raceway Park in 2006.
