TULSA, Okla. (January 30, 2015) Sam Hafertepe, Jr. has raced with the best and has proven to be among the best in the sport of Sprint Car racing. Taking on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour again in 2015, the Sunnyvale, Texas shoe once again looks to be in the hunt for a championship.
"Right now, we're just trying to get everything up to spec with the rule changes to get as much power as possible out of our engines so we can be competitive," replied Hafertepe when asked about the teams status. "Other than that, I don't feel like there are a lot of things we needed to improve on. I just think the main thing is working on our preparedness' for every night."
Elaborating on that theme of preparedness, Hafertepe explained, "We really weren't geared up to do the tour when we started last year so we had to build our program up. We didn't even have an engine when we started. We were racing on a borrowed one for the first half of the year and when we started getting our own engines built we actually became a lot more competitive and were in contention every night so with this year starting off fresh, starting off the right way, and attacking it the right way there is no doubt we're going to be one of the teams to beat all year."
Making very few changes during the off-season, Hafertepe will again utilize his J&J Chassis / Wells Racing Engine combination that kept him in the championship hunt to the very end of the 2014 season.
Taking time in the seat during January, Hafertepe hopes to carry what he learned from his off-season rides when he rolls into Florida, "We learned a lot down there [Arizona] so hopefully we can take that and apply it to Florida. Those tracks down there race very similar so with what we learned, we're looking for a better idea of what we need to have to be in contention every night."
Sam Hafertepe, Jr. ended his 2014 season fifth in Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour standings. Overall, Sam has six National Tour victories in 170 A-Feature starts with 40 top-fives', and 90 top-ten finishes. Hafertepe's best points finish with the National Tour came in 2005, finishing third to Gary Wright and Darren Stewart. The 2014 season was the fourth time Sam has finished inside the top-ten in tour standings.
