Dollansky Lands On Podium To Close Winter Heat

PETERSEN MEDIA: Craig Dollansky and his Destiny Motorsports team wrapped up the 2015 Winter Heat Showdown on Saturday night with their best finish of the week as the Elk River, MN driver picked up a third place finish.

“After the crash on Tuesday night, I felt I had put us behind,” Dollansky said. “Heading into the weekend, I really wanted to get more comfortable in the car and get a good finish to close out our Arizona trip, and help us build for Florida and beyond.”

Saturday night, Dollansky lined the MonDak Portables/Aggressive Hydraulics/Benic Enterprises backed No. 7 machine up on the front row of his heat race and took care of business as he picked up the win, and looked forward to his qualifier.

With the track not allowing for much passing in the early stages of the night, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ would grab a fifth place finish in his qualifier, ultimately placing him fourth in points, and in the second row for the feature event.

Continuing to get the Rick Rogers Construction/Boss Sign and Graphics/Maxim entry dialed in, Dollansky got off to a great start in the feature event, as he quickly worked his way into the third spot.

By lap two, Dollansky had taken over the second position, as he chased after race leader, Aaron Reutzel. Continuing to stalk Reutzel’s every move, Dollansky was able to take the lead on the ninth lap.

With Reutzel not going away easy, Dollansky would slip back to the second spot a lap later, as the lead duo hooked up in an entertaining battle.

As Reutzel broke away a bit, Dollansky continued to hold down the second spot as the laps clicked off. The end of the race saw Dollansky begin to feel pressure from David Gravel, and as the checkered flew, Gravel narrowly beat Dollansky to the stripe, and he would close his week out with a third place finish.

‘We had a great car on Saturday night, but I just ran too conservative,” he added. “Scott Benic and the rest of my team worked hard all week, and I am looking forward to getting to Florida and getting back to work in February.”

The team kicked their weekend off on Friday night, but mechanical issues plagued them in the feature event.

Finishing third in his heat race, and sixth in his qualifier, Dollansky lined up for the feature event in the seventh row.

In the early stages of the main event, Dollansky’s machine developed a leak in the wing valve. As the race carried on, the leak continued to get worse, and Dollansky was forced to pull off the racing surface, and end his night early.

“We had a wing valve start leaking oil, and it continued to get worse,” Dollansky explained. “As the race went on the oil began drenching me, and I pulled of. Overall I think we did get some things sorted out on this trip, and like I said, we are all looking forward to starting our 2015 World of Outlaw campaign.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Aggressive Hydraulics, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Dakota Fluid Power, Bob’s Bike Shop, Rod End Supply, Ft.
