Inside Line Promotions – POTTSVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 11, 2015) – Alex Bright has high expectations entering the 29th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals this week.
Bright, whose preliminary night inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla., is slated for Tuesday prior to the finale on Saturday, is coming off a stellar season when he captured five midget victories following a career-best result at the 2014 Chili Bowl. This year he tackles the event piloting a midget for Mike Heffner in search of a second straight top five.
“It’s going to be hard to top that, but I’m looking forward to doing it,” he said. “Just getting in the race is the main thing. Then it comes down to the car, the driver and the setup. You need a little bit of luck and then duke it out with the best.”
Bright finished third during his preliminary night last year before he rallied from 12th to fourth place in the Saturday main event. He is aiming for similar results and possibly his first career podium at the premier midget event, which boasts a record of more than 325 entries this year.
“The first goal is to come in the top three or even the top five on the prelim night,” he said. “The second goal once I’m in the A Main for Saturday night is to keep moving forward and don’t get caught up in anything.”
This year marks the fourth visit to the Chili Bowl for Bright, who said his confidence level is extremely high entering this week’s competition.
“I only did about 20 midget races this past year, but you always learn something every race,” he said. “I definitely think I’m more experienced (entering the Chili Bowl) than I was last year.”
