Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 8, 2015) – Extra money is on the line as the inaugural Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown wraps up this weekend at Cocopah Speedway.
The top 15 in points – representing 10 states from coast to coast – entering the final weekend of the 410ci sprint car event are within 100 points of each other. However, there are three drivers who have a clear advantage heading into Friday’s penultimate race.
Paul McMahan, who has scored a win and two podiums during the first three races of the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, holds a 16-point advantage over fellow World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series competitor Joey Saldana with Stevie Smith only 19 points out of the lead.
“We came here just thinking we’re going to try some things out and everything we’ve tried has worked,” McMahan said. “The point deal would be great, but right now we’re concentrating on winning races.”
The winner of the overall title, which calculates points from heat races, qualifiers and main events each night, following the five-race Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown will receive a $4,000 bonus with drivers finishing second through fifth pocketing $1,500 each thanks to Cometic Gasket, JE Pistons and K1 Technologies.
