Inside Line Promotions – ENUMCLAW, Wash. (Dec. 31, 2014) – The 2015 season kicks off in two days for Henry Van Dam, who will compete in the inaugural Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown at Cocopah Speedway.

Van Dam is one of approximately 50 competitors racing at the five-day 410ci sprint car event in Somerton, Ariz., which begins on Friday. He will also compete at the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday, next Tuesday – Jan. 6 – and the following weekend – Jan. 9-10.

“It’s important for us because we will get so many quality laps in such a short time,” he said. “That will be big for our team. Hopefully we can make some good gains and come out with some good finishes. I’d say the nightly goal is to make the main. If we can get in the main and then we’ll focus on going forward we’ll be happy.”

The Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which pays $12,000 to win and $1,000 to start during the four weekend races and $5,000 to win on Jan. 6 in addition to a points fund for the top five, opens the season for Van Dam. He will then race with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series in Las Vegas and Tucson, Ariz., during the first weekend of March.

The plan for the remainder of the 2015 schedule will be similar to this past season, when Van Dam didn’t race for points at any track or series.

“We’re just going to run wherever and whenever,” he said.

However, there are a couple of premier events that Van Dam has circled on his schedule. Among those is the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., for the Fred Brownfield Memorial and the Marvin Smith Memorial at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore.

“I’m really looking forward to the ASCS National Tour being back at Elma,” he said. “Fred was special to a lot of people. To race to honor him is pretty cool. If we could put our name on that trophy it’d be awesome. And I’m looking forward to defending the Marvin Smith Memorial trophy also.”

Van Dam is coming off a career-best season when he won six features – four at Grays Harbor Raceway and two at Cottage Grove Speedway, including the inaugural Marvin Smith Memorial.
