Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Dec. 2, 2014) – “The King” is making a special appearance at Cocopah Speedway this January, which will mark his first time racing at the 3/8-mile track in almost 24 years.
Steve Kinser, the winningest driver in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series history, is slated to compete for Tony Stewart Racing throughout the inaugural Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown – Jan. 2-3, Jan. 6 and Jan. 9-10.
“You’re always looking for a place to run in the offseason,” he said. “It’s a great deal. It’s nice to have a winter series.”
Kinser, a 20-time World of Outlaws champion who has earned more than 575 feature victories with the series, is fresh off his final season racing full time with the World of Outlaws. He was victorious at the track during the season opener in 1991, which is the lone World of Outlaws event at Cocopah Speedway (then known as Yuma Speedway).
Approximately 50 drivers from racing associations across the country have committed to racing in the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which pays $12,000 to win and $1,000 to start during the four weekend races – Jan. 2-3 and Jan. 9-10 – with the midweek race on Jan. 6 providing $5,000 to the winner.
