Inside Line Promotions – SHAWNEE, Okla. (Nov. 24, 2014) – The 2014 season was a banner one for Seth Bergman, who set a season high for feature victories en route to his best career finish in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings.
Bergman recorded 10 wins and he ended the season ranked sixth in the points with the premier 360ci sprint car series, which marked his fourth straight season of improving in the standings.
“There were a couple of highlights for me,” he said. “One was being able to win as many races as we did. It’s not as many as we’d like to, but we won our fair share of races. I was happy about being competitive like that. Another highlight was winning the 360 Nationals at Skagit.”
Bergman led all but the first two laps of the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win main event at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., on July 26.
“That one was special to me because I grew up as a kid watching the big races at Skagit and dreaming of winning those races at your home race track,” he said.
Bergman scored a pair of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour wins to give him at least one victory with the series in each of the past three years. He also had a staggering record of three consecutive weekends with a triumph at the end of the summer.
“It’s a lot of hard work,” he said. “To be able to go out and bang off wins like that, it’s not easy. It seems like everybody in 360 racing is close. It’s hard to find an advantage. I’m very hard on myself because I feel like I’m capable of doing that every weekend.
“It’s been a hard road for sure. When I started traveling in 2009 I expected things to come a lot easier. Then I realized if you’re gonna make it work you have to figure out a way to do it on your own. It’s been a big learning experience for me. It’s been a lot of effort mentally to figure out what it takes to be competitive night in and night out. The more time I spend doing this and traveling, it seems that I’m getting more and more figured out about it. I don’t feel like I’ve ever been as strong with a race team or as an individual than I am now.”
Bergman’s career-best 10 wins came at seven different tracks in five states. He won twice at West Siloam Speedway in West Siloam Springs, Okla.; at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore.; and at Skagit Speedway. He was also victorious at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas; at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D.; and at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.
In addition to his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumphs, Bergman scored victories with the ASCS Northwest, ASCS Sooner, ASCS Lone Star and ASCS Gulf South Regions. He also finished third in the 2nd annual Bob Westphal Memorial Cup Speedweek standings.
Bergman said his top goals for next year are to double his wins total from this season and to go after the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour title.
“I’m working hard to make it one of those years you go off and win a lot of races,” he said. “The game plan for next year is similar to what it’s been the last couple of years. I’ll chase the ASCS National Tour championship and I want to run some bigger races.”
Bergman added that he will compete in approximately a dozen 410ci events, including the Knoxville Nationals. He will start the 2015 season at the inaugural Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which is slated for Jan. 2-3, Jan. 6 and Jan. 9-10 at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz.
“A big thanks goes out to my parents and all of the sponsors who allow me to keep fulfilling my dream,” he said. “We have big goals for next year and with the support of everyone I think we can achieve them.”
