Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (Nov. 18, 2014) – Chase Johnson pushed himself to a new level in 2014.

Johnson took advantage of new racing opportunities and he raced at several tracks for the first time, which took him from California to the Midwest and back.

“I had a great year with new experiences,” he said. “I can’t thank Harley Van Dyke, Shawn and Cindy Thomas, Matt and Cole Wood, Jay St. Claire, Steve Kaiser, Scott Dupont and all of the people who gave me an opportunity. It was an unbelievable year and I’m extremely grateful for everything.”

It kicked off with his debut at the Chili Bowl Nationals in January.

“That was a surreal event,” he said. “It was neat to be able to compete in the Chili Bowl for the first time. I felt like I improved every time I hit the track.”

From there Johnson made his first 410ci sprint car start and he was involved in the 24 hours of LeMons event in March, when he drove a Volkswagon Jetta at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

Additionally, Johnson was able to gain a lot of nonwing experience in 2014. He competed in a nonwing 410ci sprint car, a nonwing spec sprint and a nonwing micro sprint along with his Chili Bowl opportunity in a midget.

“There is a big difference of driving a nonwing race car versus a winged one,” he said. “I improved as a driver by learning in both types throughout the season.”

In winged competition, Johnson took part in the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek in California and Oregon before he ventured to the Midwest, where he raced in Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri. That included his debut at the famed 360 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

“That is one of the biggest races of the year and brings in the top talent from across the country,” he said. “It’s unbelievable how tough the competition is there and how challenging the track is to learn. I gained so much knowledge about racing on a big, fast half-mile track from my laps there.”

This season also included a micro sprint win at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., on Aug. 23.

“It’s tough to win in anything these days so that meant a lot to earn a trip to Victory Lane this year,” he said.

Johnson finished the season with seven top fives, including a podium result during the Adobe Cup at Petaluma Speedway on Oct. 11.

“In addition to all of the car owners, I want to thank my family and sponsors for the support this year,” he said. “Thank you everyone for believing in me and sticking with me. I had a great time and I’m really looking forward to the opportunities in 2015 with my great sponsors, family and fans.”
