Binz Starts 4th annual Race on Dirt Strong Before Track Conditions Plague Remainder of Event

Inside Line Promotions – GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Nov. 10, 2014) – The 4th annual Race on Dirt didn’t end as well as it started for John Binz, who was aiming for his third consecutive victory.

Binz kicked off the winged micro sprint event last Saturday at Mountain Creek Speedway by charging from ninth to second place in his heat race.

“I drew the biggest number so I had to start last in the last heat race,” he said. “I got by them all on the start. I went into turn one and I’m pretty sure I was running second off turn two. They all went to the bottom and I went right to the middle of the race track.”

That lined him up on the outside of the second row of a qualifier.

“All the modifieds and the guys with the skinnier tires rutted the track real bad before the qualifier,” he said. “I couldn’t get through the ruts as well as everybody else. That’s what really killed my whole weekend. I got to third on the first start. I just couldn’t go through the ruts and had no speed on the bottom of the track. The car was biking up and bouncing around. I just ran on the bottom and salvaged what I could.”

Binz finished ninth in a qualifier. That relegated him to the B Main, which was held on Sunday. He started on the outside of the fifth row for the 20-lap consolation race.

“The B Main was terrible,” he said. “The track was dry and right around the tires. It was one lane, follow the leader. That’s how the feature ended up being, too. There weren’t too many people passing anybody.”

Binz placed eighth in the B Main to transfer into the 25-lap main event, which he lined up on the outside of the eighth row.

“I was up to eighth or ninth and started trying to run a lane above everybody on the bottom,” he said. “I was trying stuff at the end to get up through there and it didn’t work.”

Binz ended with a 12th-place result.

“It would have been great to have a better showing,” he said. “The race track just wasn’t in our favor.”

Binz will wrap up his season Nov. 28-29 at Resistol Arena in Mesquite, Texas, for the 5th annual Longhorn Shootout.
