Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Nov. 5, 2014) – Derek Hagar continued to add to his jaw-dropping statistics last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.
Hagar made a late-race move to secure his career-best 16th victory of the season during his 50th race of the year.
He kicked the night off by advancing from fourth to second place during his heat race, which gave Hagar the third-most points overall. That started him on the inside of the second row for the 20-lap main event.
Hagar moved into second place on the opening lap and he stalked A.G. Rains around the bullring for a majority of the feature.
“We had a caution midway through the feature,” he said. “I tried to do a slide job in turns three and four, but A.G. got back by me and I rode behind him for a while.”
Hagar took advantage of his next opportunity when there was a caution with approximately six laps remaining.
“On the next restart I did a different line going into turn three,” he said. “I went in high and when he went to slide up I drove underneath him.”
Hagar led the remaining handful of laps, which included a scare on the final circuit.
“We cut a right rear tire in turn three on the last lap and limped it to the finish,” he said. “I was running against the guardrail going into turn three and turning the car about the center of the corner and shooting across the bottom to exit the corner. I must have hit the tire when I did that.”
The win was Hagar’s third of the season at Riverside International Speedway, where he will return for the season finale this Saturday.
“The last three or four years we’ve ended the season on a good note with some wins,” he said. “It helps boost things through the offseason. Hopefully we can go into this weekend and do the same thing.”
