Covington Races To A Solid Weekend And Top-Ten Finish At STN

Covington Motorsports- October 29, 2014 – When the dust settled on the 27th Annual Short Track Nationals at the I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas, Matt Covington and the T&L Foundry/A-Rock Material/ Triple X would finish in the 10th position for the 15k finale. After a runner-up finish in his prelim, the Glenpool, Oklahoma driver fought with a missed setup in Saturday’s finale, relegating him to a 10th place finish. The team has a week off before they head to south to Texas, New Mexico, and then Arizona to close out the year.

In his prelim on Friday Matt would have a fast race car in the heat and qualifier to end up with enough finishing points to start 2nd in the A.

We made some slight changes for the feature”, stated Covington. “I had a good feeling we could get a top three. We had a good start and jumped out to lead early and good part of the feature. We exchanged the lead in lap traffic a couple times but eventually settled for the runner-up spot in the prelim feature.”

The top three spots form the prelims locked themselves into Saturday finale and into Saturday’s “Revenge Draw” Dash.

Covington was decent in the dash coming home 4th to start outside row two for the feature finale on Saturday.

In the 15k to win feature on Saturday Covington would fight and ill handling car and slowly slip back a bit to end up in the 10th position when the checkers flew.

Our car was tight in the center and loose on exit,” stated Covington. “We figured if we could get by the first ten or twelve laps, we’d be good the last half of the race. Unfortunately we wasn’t very good from the start of the feature set-up wise, and I just did what I could to not fall too far back during the race and salvage a top ten finishing position. All in all, it was a solid week for us. It was a shame that we didn’t do any better than we did in feature starting that far towards the front. But honestly I’m really proud of our team though and we will take this solid run and weekend and head to New Mexico and Arizona next week with some confidence and momentum on our side.”

Matt and his Covington Motorsports team would like to thank his partners who made this win possible: T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, A-Rock Materials, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, Bob Hurley RV, Eaton Industrial, Maxwell Oil, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2014.
