[b ASCS Sprints on Dirt Try to Outrun the Rain at Merritt]
[i T.J. Buffenbarger, TULSA, Okla. (August 10, 2009)]
After three events in a row canceled due to rain the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP competitors hope by heading north they can outrun the weather. Saturday the ASCS SOD series makes its one and only appearance at Merritt Speedway near Lake City, Michigan.
The always anticipated stop at Merritt will have Dustin Daggett, fresh off his appearance in the ASCS Knoxville Nationals A-Main; will attempt to win his third straight Merritt feature. Ryan Grubaugh won his first career ASCS SOD feature at Merritt and has two career wins at the racy Lake City 3/8-mile oval.
Gregg Dalman looks to for his second career win at Merritt to gain position on point leader Brett Mann to counteract the last three opportunities to close the gap that were washed away by the rain. Mann has traditionally had bad luck at Merritt, but looks to turn around his Merritt fortunes this weekend.
Gates open at Merritt Speedway Saturday at 4:00 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30.
The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP is in its 30th season of competition. Twenty-two point paying races are on the calendar with three special non-point races making up the 25 event schedule contested throughout Michigan, Ohio, and into Canada.
The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and Canada in 2009. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.
