Schatz Extends Lead in Championship...

[b Schatz Extends Lead in Championship Standings after Inaugural Ironman 55]

Donny Schatz finished third on the opening night and fourth in the finale of the inaugural Ironman 55 at I-55 Raceway this past weekend to extend his lead in the World of Outlaws championship standings to 55 markers over Jason Meyers as he chases his fourth consecutive series title. The North Dakota native leads the series with 30 Top-Five finishes.

Meyers ran fourth and 10th over the weekend and extended his series leading total of Top-10 finishes to 39 as he chases his first World of Outlaws title. He has won five times this season as the World of Outlaws gear up for the annual Gold Rush Tour beginning on Wednesday, August 19 at Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota.

Joey Saldana won the inaugural Ironman 55 to earn his series leading 13th A-Feature victory of the season. He ran eighth in the opener and now has 32 Top-10 finishes on the season and remains third in the series standings.

Steve Kinser finished ninth in the opener at I-55 Raceway to pick up his 36th Top-10 of the season. The 20-time series champion remains fourth in points and is just 24 markers behind Saldana as the pair battles for the third spot.

Jason Sides came all the way from the 12th starting spot in the opener of the Ironman 55 weekend to finish second, after a thrilling battle with Craig Dollansky and Donny Schatz. The native of Bartlett, Tennessee ran fifth in the finale to earn his 16th Top-Five finish of the season. He is currently fifth in points.

Danny Lasoski ran third on Saturday night after lining up 16th to score his 18th Top-Five finish of the season. The 2001 series champion is sixth in points just 19 markers behind Sides as they battle for the fifth position.

Craig Dollansky won the opener of the Ironman 55 weekend and finished second in the finale to pick up his 16th Top-Five finish of the 2009 campaign. He is currently seventh in points and has closed to within 43 points of Lasoski for sixth place and is now 62 markers out of the Top-Five as he continues his first season driving for Kasey Kahne Racing.

Jac Haudenschild finished seventh in the finale of the Ironman 55 and remains eighth in points on the strength of 23 Top-10 finishes.

Kraig Kinser ran sixth in the opener of the Ironman 55 on Friday night and was ninth in the finale on Saturday night. He remains ninth in the championship standings on the strength of 24 Top-10 finishes.

Lucas Wolfe, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year is currently 10th in points, with Brian Ellenberger, the leading rookie contender this season in 11th.

The World of Outlaws kick off the 2009 Gold Rush Tour on Wednesday, August 19 at Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota, followed by a stop at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Friday, August 21 and a return to Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, North Dakota on Saturday, August 22.
