Josh Schneiderman and the Deuce Motorsports #49 team finished their 2014 season strongly with a podium finish with the Sprint Invaders at 34 Raceway near West Burlington, Iowa Saturday. The night also featured the “Ironman Challenge”, in which Josh drove from eighth to second. He would finish third in the final point standings for the Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders.
With 33 cars in attendance, Josh drew a starting spot outside row four in his heat. A good first lap saw him get to third, where he would finish. “Our draw has just not been good, but that’s how it goes,” he says. “The way the track was, you had to get what you could get on the first lap. I thought we had the opportunity to get second a couple of times. We got into lapped traffic, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”
The third place finish in the heat meant Josh would start inside row five for the 25-lap feature. He moved up steadily, and checkered third. “We had an extremely fast racecar,” he says. “We were utilizing the low line in one and two, and no one else was. We were bad fast in the cushion in three and four. Ultimately, we just ran out of laps. I thought we were better than second, and we needed a yellow to see what we had for the leader.”
The 10-lap “Ironman Challenge” was open to those participating in 100% of the Sprint Invaders events. A “revenge draw” was held, and Josh was handed the ninth and final starting spot by Jon Agan. “It was kind of an interesting evening,” he says. “I told the guys rolling out there, ‘Agan drew the front of the heat and the pole of the feature. You watch, he’s going to pull the nine and give it to me.’ I’ll be darned if that’s not what happened. It was one of those nights where you get the feeling the draw is against you.”
Despite the tough draw, he was a rocket, surging to second in the non-stop event. “We were extremely fast in that race,” says Josh. “We were able to get to second, and again, we may have had something for the leader with a late yellow. It was just the way it went. We passed some cars, and that’s something we can hang our hat on. We’ve really figured something out the last four weeks and that’s important for next year.”
Josh would finish third in the Sprint Invaders standings behind Agan and Tony Shilling. “A top three in points with the quality of competition we’re running with anymore…it’s nothing to hang your head about,” he says. “It’s a little disappointing not to win it, but in the end, it’s a good deal.”
