Binz Wins Second Straight Micro Sprint Race at Mountain Creek Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Sept. 28, 2014) – John Binz scored his second straight feature victory on Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway.

“Everybody always told me the first one is the hardest to win and the rest come easier,” he said.

That proved to be true on Friday when Binz powered from 10th to earn the win in only his ninth race this season. It was also his first start since his first career micro sprint triumph earlier in September.

“I told my girlfriend that I could win from 10th,” he said. “I knew I had a chance because we got to run after the sprint cars. They used up the middle so it made the track more racy for the feature. If it had stayed locked down like the heat races there wouldn’t have been any passing.”

Binz opened the night by advancing from sixth to fourth place in his heat race. That locked him into the 20-lap main event, which he started on the outside of the fifth row because of an inversion based on points.

“On the first start I jumped it and they threw a yellow,” he said. “The next one I followed in line and got to fifth or sixth. I went to the bottom and kind of messed up. Then I threw a pretty good slide job in turns three and four to get by a couple of guys. The top four were running the bottom. I was up on the top and I got by them with seven or eight to go.”

Binz made quick work of the top four after he had advanced into fifth place.

“I got two in one set of corners and the next two in the next set of corners,” he said. “I led a couple of laps and we had a caution with five or six laps to go. I was right around the top for the rest of the race.”

It marked the second straight race that Binz passed at least five cars en route to the victory.
