PETALUMA, CA 8-1-09 – Sebastopol’s Bradley Terrell has had his share of good fortune and bad throughout the 2009 racing season. After several weeks of mixed luck, the North Bay resident finally titled the scale of luck further into his favor after an impressive charge during the Golden State Challenge Series event at Petaluma Speedway.
Terrell was one of the few drivers that brought to a knife to a gunfight for the August 1 event. Taking a week off from the seat of the VanLare Steering Repair #5v, Terrell climbed back into the seat of this family owned #43 360 powered sprint car to compete with some of California’s best 410 cubic inch powered sprint car drivers.
A top driver in the weekly 360 All Pro Series at Petaluma Speedway, Terrell is a driver that is known for his ability to negotiate track and has charged his way through the field on many occasions. Last Saturday night, Terrell’s performance was superior as he continued his hard charging habits behind the wheel of a car that was 50 cubic inches less than those which populated the field.
“I was a little bit worried when we started off in the 360 tonight,” said Terrell. “I figured the front runners were going to be coming back up on me really fast and getting in their way is something I didn’t want to do. But we did great. We ended up nailing our set up perfectly.”
Terrell was the 17th fastest qualifier of the night with a lap time of 12:896 seconds. In his heat race, Terrell drove from sixth to third in the field to secure a starting spot within the inversion for the A-feature. In the money race is where he made his most impressive run of the night. After starting 17th, charged his way towards the front of the field.
By the tenth lap of the race, Terrell broke into the top ten and began pursuing Tyler Spath for the ninth position for the next seven laps before overtaking Spath. In the closing laps, Terrell tucked in behind 8th place Brent Bjork, a regular with the Golden State Challenge Series. Terrel finished the event an impressive ninth.
“This was a really good night for us,” said Terrell. “We’ve been doing well in the VanLare car most of the year and have had our troubles in our own car. This was good for all of us tonight to come here and do this well. We had a lot of fun.”
Terrell will take a weekend off from action before returning to the Petaluma Speedway All Pro Series on Saturday, August 15th. At that time he will return to the seat of the Vanlare Steering and Repair #5v sprint car. Terrell is currently second in the All Pro Series point standings.
