Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (Sept. 24, 2014) – Seth Bergman started last weekend with a great shot at winning a $50,000 bonus during the Midwest Fall Brawl.
Bergman had won his heat race and redrew the pole position for Friday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature at I-80 Speedway, which offered a bonus for any driver who swept the weekend.
“Friday night we got a good draw and hot laps went well,” he said. “We were happy with the race car. We got into the heat race and we got out front and won that. I felt like the car was rolling really good. Things were going our way.”
However, Bergman didn’t have the main event he had hoped for after lining up on the inside of the front row.
“Early in the feature we had about three or four laps where we went back and forth with Wayne (Johnson) for the lead,” he said. “I think he read the race track better than I did. I tried to overcompensate and made a couple of bad choices that put me in a position where I was racing for fourth instead of racing for the lead.”
Bergman dropped as far as fifth before rebounding to earn a fourth-place result, which locked him into the feature redraw on Saturday.
Unfortunately, Bergman pulled the second-highest number – seven – during that redraw to line up on the inside of the fourth row for Saturday’s feature.
“I think we were better the first night compared to the second,” he said. “The track was a little different. I don’t think we had the speed we needed and it showed. The guys who were better than us drove around us. Our weekend started out really good and strong. As the weekend went on we lost a little bit of speed, but both nights we finished in the top 10.”
Bergman ended with a ninth-place finish, which marked his 36th top 10 of the season.
He will return to action with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this Friday and Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.
“We worked hard this week,” he said. “There’s a handful of races tracks we go to each year where you want to win and put your name on that trophy. This being the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial you definitely want to win. I’m hungry to get back to Victory Lane and win this weekend.”
