Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (Sept. 23, 2014) – This year’s Midwest Fall Brawl didn’t favor Jack Dover.

A year after earning his biggest payday in racing thanks to a $20,000 bonus for sweeping the doubleheader at I-80 Speedway, Dover wasn’t able to crack the top five during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

“We just weren’t prepared enough,” he said. “I’m still trying to figure this new car out and a combination of other things.”

One variable that plagued Dover all weekend was the heavy track conditions, which made it hard to pass following his high pill draw each night.

Dover advanced from seventh to fourth place during his heat race on Friday night. Although that locked him into the feature, it started him on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“There wasn’t much passing because the track was so heavy,” he said. “In the feature, we weren’t great, but we weren’t bad. It was just a locked-down, fast track and you had to work with what you had. It’s one of those deals where you have to start up front to do well. I was happy to bring the car home in one piece.”

Dover maneuvered to a ninth-place result, which was his 30th top 10 of the season.

Rain plagued the area following Friday’s race and hampered the track throughout Saturday.

“There was water that was seeping onto the frontstretch,” Dover said. “On the start of the heat race I went and hit that and just about lost the car. I was able to save it.”

Dover ended seventh in his heat race and eighth in a B Main. However, he was awarded a provisional because he was the reigning ASCS Midwest Region champion. That allowed him to tag the back of the field for the main event.

“Before we went out for the feature we switched gears and shocks and just tried something different,” he said. “It made the car better, but it wasn’t as good as it has been this past year. It was something to build on.”

Dover powered from 24th to an eighth-place finish, which earned him a $1,000 bonus thanks to Searsboro Telephone as the Hard Charger Award winner.

He is slated to race this Friday and Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“Every time we’ve been to Lucas Oil Speedway we’ve either ran well or had bad luck,” he said. “Hopefully good luck is on my side this weekend. To win that race would be pretty sweet.”
