A third, fifth and tenth place finish with the World of Outlaws have Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team ready for this weekend’s $50,000 to sweep Fall Brawl at the I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver finished fifth at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa last Friday, tenth at the Deer Creek Speedway near Spring Valley, Minnesota Saturday and third at the Terre Haute Action Track in Indiana last night.
Things started last Friday at Spencer when you timed in fourth quick.
We unloaded at Spencer, and laid a good qualifying lap down. When you’re with the Outlaws, you need to be able to be in that top four, and we were able to do that. We tried to stay out of trouble in the heat, and we were able to run fifth there.
You ran fourth in the Dash and you were able to come home with a fifth place finish.
I made some not very good moves as a driver, and lost a few spots. We were able to get those back, and get back up there into fifth. Overall, it was a good night. We hadn’t been that good at Spencer the last two or three years.
You timed in the top ten again Saturday at Deer Creek.
We qualified well, but we were eighth quick. You have to start inside row two of the heat, and you have to win to get in the Dash. It’s just a tough spot, and we finished third in the heat.
That lined you up outside row six for the feature.
We were up to eighth or ninth and I got kind of tight on the double-file restarts. They are either feast or famine. We lost some spots, but we were able to crawl back up into the top ten (finishing tenth).
You struggled a bit in qualifying last night at Terre Haute with eleventh quick.
Thank goodness for Charlie Garrett. Sometimes, when your car’s not perfect, you need the engine to help you out. That put us in good position to win your heat.
You ran seventh in the Dash, which put you in row four for the feature.
All night long, we just really weren’t that balanced. We were sliding around a little bit. We never really fixed it all night long. Even in the feature, I thought I could get my own air getting the wing back and help my situation a little bit. I was hoping I had something for those guys at the end, but I was just trying to hold onto third. I didn’t want to do something silly.
It was a good podium run. You were really lucky, because your steering arm broke coming for the checkers.
Lucky, lucky man. I felt something was going wrong with a couple to go. I didn’t feel right. Coming to the checkered, it just darted right. I went into turn one and two and it just didn’t turn. If that had been a half a lap, or a corner earlier, they’d have been picking me up out of the weeds. I’m so thankful for that. Luck was on our side.
It had to be a good feeling running up front with the Outlaws again.
Overall, we had three top tens, two top fives and the podium in three races with the Outlaws, so there’s nothing to complain about.
I know you’re excited about I-80 tomorrow and Saturday.
We’re looking forward to this weekend’s Fall Brawl. It’s $50,000 to win both and I’m like a kid on Christmas morning. I’m itching to get there. If we play our cards right, I think we’ll have something for them.
