Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (Sept. 17, 2014) – It has been five years since Austen Wheatley made his lone visit to Central Washington State Fair Raceway.
Wheatley will return to the fairgrounds in Yakima, Wash., this Friday and Saturday hoping for a better result during the ASCS Northwest Region doubleheader.
“I’ve only been there once,” he said. “I started on the pole and we did the three wide. When we got into double file they said my transponder wasn’t working. So that brought the caution back out. They sent me to the pits to get it fixed and then wouldn’t give me my spot back. I had to restart last.”
Wheatley finished 17th during that feature.
This weekend also marks the first time since 2010 that Wheatley has competed in an ASCS Northwest Region event. Additionally, it’s only his fourth and fifth 360ci races this season. He has earned two top fives and three top 10s so far.
“Hopefully there are two lanes and you can move around on the track,” he said. “It’s a flat track, which a lot of fairgrounds are. I hope it is racy and we can contend for the win each night.”
