Tankersley Capitalizes on Kind Gesture to Earn Podium Finish at Leesville 171 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – LEESVILLE, La. (Sept. 10, 2014) – Channin Tankersley caught a fortunate break last Saturday at Leesville 171 Speedway.

“We blew up in hot laps and didn’t have another motor,” he said. “Luckily Bruce Griffith was gracious enough to let me run his car for the night. Whenever we blew up he came to us and another guy approached us as well to keep us in the championship. I’m very grateful about that. That was a year saver right there.”

Tankersley hopped in Griffith’s sprint car to start his ASCS Gulf South Region heat race on the pole.

“I went into it blind and threw something at it to get it close,” he said. “The car wasn’t horrible. It was just a little too snug. We probably would have been alright if we didn’t have a caution on the last lap. That allowed Ray Allen (Kulhanek) to close in on me and he passed me on the last lap.”

Tankersley’s runner-up finish gave him enough points to advance into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 4 in the random draw to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“Going into the feature we made a bunch of changes,” he said. “I ran third most of the race. With about five laps to go we got into some good traffic. I got around second place and some lapped cars where it was a clear track between me and Ray Allen. I started reeling him in a bit, but ultimately just ran out of time.”

Tankersley finished second, which marked his 13th top five of the season. It also gives him a 101-point advantage in the championship standings entering the ASCS Gulf South Region season finale on Sept. 27 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.

This weekend Tankersley will drive for Griffith during the Port-A-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. He finished sixth during the event last season.

“It’s a very nice facility and it’s a hammer down joint,” he said.
