Tulsa Oklahoma (September 9, 2014) - Veteran Oklahoma Sports Park promoter George Welch presents the 8th Annual Oklahoma State Championship sprint car race this Saturday night on his famed 4/10-mile racetrack in Ada Oklahoma.
Sanctioned by the Oil Capital Racing Series, the OSC race began in 2007 with Mike Goodman of Tulsa taking the inaugural OSC victory. In the previous seven OSC events, only Moore Oklahoma pilot Whit Gastineau has scored twice with those victories coming in 2010 and 2012.
Norman’s Danny Jennings, always a crowd favorite, added his first OSC acrylic trophy to his racing hardware collection last year. Additional OSC winners include:
Current OCRS points leader Danny Smith in 2008
Andy Shouse, who nipped Jennings at the finish line in 2009
Gary Owens won in 2011 when leader Fred Mattox crashed just a few yards from the finish line.
The OSC event has indeed produced some exciting racing action and more of the same is expected in the 2014 edition of the event.
This years OSC race will have an additional plot as the competition for the OCRS championship is in the midst of the most heated battle in the 13-year history of the series. Andrew Deal has been slowly chopping into the point lead that Smith has held since the first week of May. After last weeks event in Tri-State Speedway, Deal is only seven points behind Smith with the season quickly winding down.
Regardless of who prevails, it will be the first series championship for either driver. Also at stake are bragging rights for the chassis manufactures and engine builders as championship glory can boost business. Smith’s package is an F5 Twister with a Dyno Services of Oklahoma engine while Deal’s package is an A.R.T. chassis with Wornhor Racing Engines.
Additional drivers expected to battle for the OSC title include:
The 5-time OCRS feature winner in 2014 of Alex DeCamp
Dual winner’s this season in Brian McClelland and Chance Morton
Solo winners Michael Bookout, Derek Cottrell, Kade Morton, Gary Owens and Shane Sellers
Mix in OCRS regulars Johnny Kent, Shayla Waddell, Perry Pickard, Kyle Clark, Cameron Hagin, Dan Schnackenberg, Mike Huard and more and the 2014 OSC event is set to have a full field of racing machines.
The forecast is for dry weather and temps in the upper 60’s at race time so bring all your friends and enjoy what is sure to be an exciting night of sprint car racing action at one of the fastest tracks on the circuit.
