Inside Line Promotions – SUNNYVALE, Texas (Sept. 8, 2014) – Sam Hafertepe Jr. is following a rare weekend off with a doubleheader close to home.
Hafertepe Jr. will head up the road to Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Port-A-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship this Friday and Saturday.
“It’s a good opportunity to race close to home and it will allow some friends and family to see me race,” he said. “We had a top 10 last year at the track so hopefully we can improve the results to come away with a win or two.”
Hafertepe Jr. finished ninth during the event last season, which topped his DNF from 2012.
This year Hafertepe Jr. is riding momentum from a series-leading three feature victories. That ranks him fifth in the championship standings – only 32 points out of second place and 124 from the top spot.
“We’re showing up to each track looking to win rather than chasing points,” he said. “We’ve had the speed all year long to win races. It all boils down to putting yourself in the right position and catching the right breaks.”
Two of his five total victories this season have been in the state of Texas.
