Inside Line Promotions – GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Sept. 8, 2014) – Cody Freeman’s battle with carburation woes continued last Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway.
“We were not good in the heat race,” he said. “The car just didn’t want to run. Like the previous week we were scratching our heads. Something was killing it. There was no bottom end in the motor or top end for that matter. It’s almost like something is loading the whole motor up.”
Freeman dropped to an eighth-place result in his micro sprint heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.
“The engine was still messed up,” he said. “It repeated exactly what it did in the heat race and what it did the weekend prior. It was bogging down and was about 1,500 RPMs. The biggest advantage we had in the feature was the track went dry slick.”
Freeman advanced from eighth to fifth place on the opening lap and he picked up another position on Lap 3.
“We were up to fourth by the completion of the third lap,” he said. “The first three cars definitely had more pull. By the end of the race I made one or two mistakes, but was pushing on third’s bumper coming to the take the checkered flag.”
The fourth-place result was Freeman’s 12th top five of the season.
He is slated to take the next couple of weeks off before returning to Mountain Creek Speedway on Sept. 26.
“In the meantime we’re going to make some carburetor changes,” he said. “We plan on going through our fuel lines real good as well. Then we’re going to use the Sept. 26 race as a practice on top of a race to get us ready to go back to Oklahoma in October.”
