Inside Line Promotions – WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Sept. 8, 2014) – Cody Wampler continued to fight fuel issues last Friday at Red River Speedway.
“We’re still fighting carburetor and fuel issues,” he said. “I’m not 100 percent convinced that is all of it. I’m going to pull the intake off and see if we have a gasket that is sucking it in.”
Wampler advanced from fourth to third place during his heat race despite the struggling engine in his champ sprint car. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.
“The track was super rough,” he said. “It was the roughest track I’ve ever been on. They had some issues up there with it being really slick. They went from one extreme to the other. They had it so soft it was rutted up.
“On the start of the feature we hooked a rut with the right rear. It jumped the front end out and we slapped the frontstretch wall. It stripped a couple of bolts on the steering arm so we were done.”
Wampler was unable to resume competition following the opening-lap crash. He was credited with ninth place, which marked his sixth top 10 of the season.
“More than likely we’ll take this week off and try to get it right,” he said. “We’re trying to decide whether to take it to a chassis dyno. Our main goal is to have everything lined out before the Winter Nationals at Lawton Speedway (in Lawton, Okla.) the first weekend in October.”
