Inside Line Promotions – GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Sept. 7, 2014) – John Binz took advantage of his patience to record his first career micro sprint win last Friday.

Binz, who hadn’t competed since the end of June because of engine damage, powered from sixth to claim the monumental winged micro sprint triumph at Mountain Creek Speedway.

“It feels pretty good to get the first one out of the way,” he said. “I’ll probably run about another half-dozen races this year so hopefully we can get another one before the season is over.”

Binz opened the night by driving from third place to win his heat race.

“I had the lead coming off turn two on the opening lap,” he said. “I pretty much split them going into turn one and took the top. My crew said I won by a little more than half a lap. I was going pretty good.”

That earned him a spot in the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 6 in the random draw, which started him on the outside of the third row for the 20-lap main event.

“It took me awhile to get the lead, probably half the race,” he said. “I got a couple of cars on the start. I finally got by second place and the leader on the top. I was way up there. That’s probably the farthest the curb ever gets up there.”

Binz then used the bottom groove following a late-race restart to pull away for the victory.

“I want to thank Travis Rilat with All Star Wheel Repair and Shop The BOSS for splitting the motor costs,” he said. “Also, thanks to my mom, dad, Chris Brown, Joey Starnes and my girlfriend, Jessie.”
