Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Sept. 3, 2014) – Travis Rilat’s final trip of the season to compete in Washington didn’t go as planned.

“We just weren’t any good,” he said.

Rilat’s weekend tripleheader at Skagit Speedway kicked off last Thursday with a Summer Thunder Sprint Series event. He qualified third quickest and finished fourth to lock the Richard Saumure owned sprint car into the main event, which it started on the inside of the second row.

“I started third so there’s no reason I shouldn’t have won or been a contender,” Rilat said. “We never got the car right and didn’t have a great driver.”

Rilat finished with a seventh-place result, which marked his 13th top 10 of the season.

The team then tackled the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the 3/10-mile track starting on Friday, when Rilat qualified 24th quickest and advanced from eighth to sixth place in his heat race. Unfortunately, he pulled off the track early in the main event and was credited with a 23rd-place finish.

The weekend concluded on Saturday with Rilat timing in 18th quickest during qualifying. He then moved from sixth to fifth place in his heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the ninth row for the main event. Rilat battled for a top 15 throughout the feature before ending with a 20th-place result.

He will return to action on Sept. 12-13 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Port-A-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Rilat led part of the race last year before hitting the wall and packing the right rear wheel full of mud.

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race and Triple X Race Co. was next door,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
